Background

Our client is a prominent global brewery group that established a state-of-the-art brewery plant in Mysuru, India. Given the nature of brewing operations, brewery wastewater typically contains moderate levels of organic pollutants, necessitating effective treatment before safe discharge. Additionally, the client sought a solution that would allow for partial water recycling to enhance sustainability and operational efficiency.

Solution

To address these challenges, we proposed a comprehensive two-step treatment process consisting of anaerobic treatment followed by aerobic treatment. This dual approach is designed to efficiently reduce organic pollutants while facilitating water recovery.

  • Anaerobic Treatment: The initial phase utilizes anaerobic digestion to break down organic matter, producing biogas as a byproduct. This process not only reduces the pollutant load but also generates renewable energy.
  • Aerobic Treatment: The subsequent aerobic stage further purifies the wastewater, ensuring that it meets stringent discharge regulations.

The system is complemented by advanced water recycling technologies, including ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis, allowing for the recovery of up to 142 cubic meters of water per day. This integrated wastewater treatment and recycling solution boasts low initial costs and operating expenses, positioning the client to achieve both compliance and sustainability goals effectively.
